    well my view on oil and airlines, is that apart from clever hedging guesses in the short term, all airlines are in the same boat when it comes to oil prices in the medium term.

    Which means they can all put their fares up and down together to maintain their profit margin.

    Where the effect comes in, is where the high fares ( combined with other recessionary factors ) cause customer demand to decline sharply.

    The long term future of this airline is somewhat questionable as the NZ government owns a huge chunk. Do they have a long term exit strategy ? It would seem not. Given the recent auckland airport and NZ Rail fiascos it would seem that private infrastructure is not exactly in fashion in NZ atm.
