That rationale, though spot on in your understanding of it, is flawed fundamentally (for those who employ it) because by selling at the open today of $0.057, I would suggest that the majority of sellers today made a loss regardless, and unless they plan on picking up their SPP, they will be negating the benefits of buying low. The key to make money in this sort of maneuver is to buy LOWER than you sold. This has not happened today.
So who's in for the SPP? Technically still worth is as it is marginally cheaper than buying on market, and you don't encounter brokerage fees.
