Now that Chinese have taken a liking to bread demand has to be strong for foreseeable future. Their spending power is huge. Africans love bread. But at $1.00 a standard loaf is now too expensive for many. Plus availability has decreased as infrastructure fails and poverty remains entrenched. Maize is dominant staple and forms major part of diet. Still cheap fortunately. Sub-Saharan Africa just under 1 Billion people. Total for entire continent is 1.15 Billion. Was about 95 million in 1900.

One report sez: 'Africa accounted for only 9 per cent of the world’s population in 1950, but by the end of this century about 40 per cent of all humans (and nearly half of all children) will be African, heralding one of the fastest and most radical demographic changes in history, the report says.'

Wages for unskilled work are a fraction of what they were 30 years ago. Unemployment sits at 50-70% in many countries. Unlikely to change and i fear for their future. No solution in sight. Very worrying. Collapse of crude price will hit Nigeria, Angola and several others very hard.
