The BER helped hugely if there was 5% waste woopy ding. Maybe the coalition could have done it with 3% waste.... (with the benefit of hindsight because thats what they're good at)The fact is it needed to be done, it needed to be done quickly, it was a huge undertaking and its success is so evident that most liberal supporters don't even know there was a GFC or at least won't acknowledge it.
