As primitive as a horse and cart is to a Tesla.
As primitive as a bow and arrow is to an AK47.
Both were also developed over centuries but I doubt you would choose the horse and cart with a bow and arrow and let your adversary take the Tesla and AK47 before mortal combat.

I bet the number of lives lost at sea today are tiny compared with the days of sail. Especially when you factor in the amount of freight being transported which is what it's all about.
