As to the presidency its run on a college system as as we saw last time Hillary out polled Donald by 3 million. All this is no accident Thomas Jefferson when designing the rules argued against the tyranny of the majority. Being a slave holder himself he obviously preferred the tyranny of the minority.

America is not a democracy, it's a constitutional republic and each presidential candidate wins that states electoral votes by winning its popular vote so there are many examples of democracy within their voting system.
