Re the broadband:- most people, almost all, have no need for an ultra fast connection. They tend to say they like it because it's new and shiny, without understanding two things. First they have to pay for it, even if they don't want or need it . Second, for almost all of us it will make no difference other than to refresh and load sites faster.

It may be useful for some businesses - in which case "user pays" sounds a great idea to me.

It may be popular with nerds who want to game, download large files [code for illegal movies] or porn.

You can opt out of connecting to it, but you can't opt out of paying for it.

Other than that, it is the equivalent of a 6 lane highway to every garage door. The Coalition's 4 lane highway is little better.

It's not nation building, it's plain madness. It is not a government's job to be investing in high capital risk investments - and it doesn't get any riskier than this.
