Following LYC for about 8/12. Here is an article from Time mag - last year - about NiMH battery supply problems;

I have a reference [somewhere amongst 50 others] that Toyota have committed to the NiMH type over the Li types, because of the long success story [? 10 years] in their Prius experience - the NiMH batteries in the first models are still working!!

The other use for this tech is MRI scanners - great medical imaging devices.

I will be getting some of these little beauties when the leftovers of my once cute super funds arrive in my SMSF.
