I certainly have learnt a lot here just reading this thread and has shaped to some degree how I will approach this.
Probably the biggest point is to get buy in from the child and try to make them understand the rationale but hold the line.
I too agree that we work for our children's future benefit however learning some of life's practical lessons is not always straight forward and the odd bump and scrape along the way can be a valuable lesson.
