Acceptance is a very funny concept. It can be forced upon an individual by manipulating the laws. At which point, it is not acceptance by one's own volition or choice but by way of clayton's choice.
People are sick and tired of hearing about the LGBTQ movement in the same way they are sick and tired of hearing about any movement. But that again does not mean that they are not accepting of these people. It is more likely than not to be because there is a movement that is annoying.
So when you say "aren't we over this yet" the simple answer to that is a big fat NO.
To change attitudes take a lot of time. Sometimes it can take a decade or two. Just look at the climate change sentiment. These things were touted 20 years ago. Action is only happening now.
So I am not sure that people have whole heartedly accepted a lot of things fully. They may have accepted the fact that such things exist but the moment it is kind of personalised their is still a level of "how can that be" syndrome. Its like anything in life. Prejudices will always be there.
