before a lengthy term is acceptable, the nexus between a senator's term and that of a House of Representative, as provided for in the constitution, will need to be broken.
As it is, a 3 year term for the House of Rep means a 6 year term for the senate (unless there is a double dissolution). A 4 year House of Rep term will mean 8 years term for the senate which I think will be too long for the latter.
