Take your sunny location: 1,700 kWh/m2/year. Assume a fairly low 10% efficiency for the panels, and 20 square metres. Assume the worst-case scenario of 3,140 kg CO2 up-front cost. Then the total electricity generated over 20 years is:
20 * 20 * 1700 * 0.1 = 68,000 kWh
The CO2 cost per kWh is therefore:
3,140 kg / 68,000 = 46 g CO2/kWh.
... and that’s using 9-year-old, deliberately pessimistic figures.
