IMO I think you are only showing a negative side of the equation and maybe a little extreme, which of course you are entitled to do on a forum such as HC... and its good to see people expressing their views of the situation....

.... but (in layman's terms)

Profits of approx $68m are generally derived from sales; therefore actual $$

Write-downs are non cash items used to reduced "paper profits" ... and in fact benefit a company in relation to tax. (Sure the book value of assets decreases if this process is undertaken but hey ... the joys of business LOL)

Amazon is estimated to be at least 12 months away so I can't see it affecting 2018 FY earnings much ?

And sure I agree ... other iconic long term companies in the past have unexpectedly closed their doors or are struggling and catching investors unaware ...some mum and dad investors have lost much of their savings .... who knows Myer may in fact be the next SGH ?? Or worst still the next DSH, Payless Shoes, or even Ansett etc etc ?? BUT I seriously doubt it and as I have said before SL ain't in the business of 'throwing money down the drain' - just sayin' ...

MYR is now probably destined for a T/O IMO of course !
