i think these people deal with larger quantities.

They put up a wall 2 weeks before an ann and then wait for people to put in sell ordered under theirs and/or they put smallish cheaper buy orders

and they accrue many shares... at a cheap price

then they remove the wall, let the price rise due to imminent announcement etc then sell the extra shares they bought at the new higher price then wait for the interest to leave the stock and start forcing the price down again...

that's how i imagine it works

The number of shares they buy while the wall is up is much larger than the size of their wall i think.. Think about the total days volume over a few days or a week...
