Oops, I remember hitching a ride on the baker's horse pulled cart delivering bread on the way home from school!
The ice man with his horse and cart called around every couple of days with blocks of ice for the chillers...no fridge.
We'd be woken in the morning with the bell on the milkman's horse in the early hours when he delivered the milk...in bottles with the gold or silver tops and the cream in the neck! Which we would sneak open and stick our fingers in and then get in trouble!
The bread went into a "bread box" on the kitchen bench...you were not allowed to eat the crust as that was left on the loaf to stop the outside going stale...
Two half uprights please...that was the standard order and you sliced it yourself.
Oh and don't forget the steam trains and trams...
This was the mid to late fifties in Perth...am I old?

The ice delivery man was a kids best friend during summer as we followed him on his round. The slithers of ice that broke off the main block he gave away to the following local kids . No flavours but made memorable ice treats for all the kids. Oh those were simple great times.
