I was talking to a representative from the reserve bank today on the safest investment vehicles. No bank in Australia is guaranteed by the reserve bank. In fact the only safety net you have is that depositors get first bite of the cherry in liquidation. There are certain criteria and obligations the banks have to meet but the bottom line is they are not guaranteed.
