I think there has been a substantial paradigm shift since the 70s in both economics and poilitics. We can no longer distinguish simply into capitalist vs socialist economics - this has morphed into a global corporatism where the corporations - in many so called western capitalist countries, now set the agenda for governments to follow.
The last two covid years has been a testament to this takeover by stealth - Big Farma setting health policies and directives for many countries which were in most cases - one could argue - damaging to public health and welfare.
One gets the feeling that Australia has resumed its colonial status - we have a foreign owned mining sector, we have no manufacturing left to talk of and we have a bloated public service which often hinders rather than promotes any real growth. We have a government system which is vulnerable to the claws of corporate lobbyists - which it now serves - rather than representing the welfare of its citizens. One can therefore also throw the old left-right political paradigm out the window as well - the left no longer represents the workers and the right no longer represents the small business sector - they both represent the global corporate machine.
We have the best governments money can buy
