How stupid can denial get is a very good question Mjp2,and one that deserves some consideration, as those who deny the science of global warming and climate change show regularly in this forum.
As you know, denialists work the same old tired ground again and again. Typically, they either deny facts or lie, cherry pick data or nitpick, or highlight short term data noise over the much more important long term data trends. They are at all times willing also to misrepresent scientific papers, twisting findings therein to suit their own purposes. In short there is no end to stupid.
Take the constant republication of facts about cold weather on one part of Earth, which many seem to vomit up as evidence that there is no global warming. In doing so denialists continually misrepresent the science of the issue and in doing so underscore their own lack of understanding about the issue. They have made it their goal to try to muddy the science waters. Idjuts.
The list is never ending. I refer to them as graduates of the Up Is Down University and of its special elective unit How Not To See The Elephant In The Room 101.
Perhaps egregiously, in what is essentially a political debate about the societal response to global warming, they’ve decided to trash science, one of the very pillars of modern civilisation. It’s okay by them if science is collateral damage in the whole debate. One of their number, ex PM Tony Abbott even decided to not have a science minister. A revolution to be sure, but going backwards.
What made stupid such an attractive target? What made the Dark Ages such a great place to live?
