"Arctic sea ice melt rate today" looks to be less slope than equivalent melt rate on same day for some years less than 1500 years ago (2010 to 2014) based on NSIDC data tool graphics.
The "rate of melt" is given by the slope of the graph. Were you trying to use the NOAA quote as an example of a lie? I think its just very sloppy emotional non-scientific wording myself rather than a deliberate lie.
