Yes, kincella, most of us approaching retirement must be very disappointed with how events have played out last few years. Sometimes I wonder if this has been some orchestrated global conspiracy to stuff the baby-boomers....Most of us have seen our super smashed.....and I gave up - and do it myself now - like so many others. Pretty pleased so far.....and hope it continues.
But you're right....a bit of land provides some great options to have an enjoyable and meaningful retirement. I reckon the health and income benefits of growing your own will put several good years on the life-span. I can walk out the back door right now and pick a dozen veggies and fruits. The chickens did their work early for the day...and we ate the result this morning for breakfast. Chickens are the best, a bit of pellet or crumble feed, scraps from meals (they eat anything), weeds (they eat them all), and you get daily eggs....and clean the bottom off their pen every couple weeks....dump it in the compost bin...and out comes a super fertiliser a month later.
No point in a million in super....we reckon 4-500k with the pension top-up is plenty....And there are lots of benefits attached to the pension...low-cost prescriptions, transport (trains and buses), slight saving on electricity, land rates, licenses, internet, etc......LOL...can hardly wait....
