Thanks for the people who posted help, especially @Jazz6868 . I rang the westpac share investing number (131331), saying I wanted to buy shares for my son with him as the beneficiary. They guided me through the online form. Basically on the online form you select Trust/SMSF on the account type, then select Minor. The online form didn't work however, it just created an individual account. In the end I downloaded the paper form for opening a share investing account for a trust and filled it out. Still hasn't been approved yet after a few business days. The form was called "19. Share Trading Account Application Form - Company & Trust" on the website. The form has a lot of sections not relevant to a minor trust, and is more painful to fill in than the online version!
