Outside of brokerage, thats not necessarily true.
If a stock goes up by xx%, your still making money.
You can't look at it in $$$ value.
If you only have $100 to invest getting a 20% return on your money is a good thing.
Now of course this figure is too low, and brokerage is the only thing in the way, but then funds have fees too.
Basically if you are comfortable with your own decisions even small trades can be profitable in percentage terms.
