It's quite simple really and it was proven in WWII. If you can't control the skies you can't control the land. Future warfare will be conducted over the horizon. Thus our newest ships are Air Warfare Destroyers. Surveilance will rely more and more on drone technology.
The mix is probably right albeit a little late. What we really need is National Pride, National Training, National Service and National Respect. This should be instilled and implemented for all Australians in the high school gap year before tertiary education.
Conscription is not a dirty word - it's a Nation building ethos! Why are we puting criminals in goal and paying for the privilege. Put them into the Army and teach them respect and community.
