yes, you should do that. I think the reason your pc hangs is because you have virtually runs out of free hard disk space.
The way I suggested to you before should work; had a similar problem a few years ago and that was how I deleted my large chunk of unwanted old files.
Just my thought; others may have better ways of doing it.
