Purple, re "British"....he may have been Australian!
in 1960, before I had a passport, I was issued with an Australian Pilot's Licence.....which stated my nationality was "British". Rang up DCA & was told : "Australians ARE British", lol. Would have been the status quo in 1947, then, also.
