I'm sure they'll be model citizens once we just gave them all they want:

FEDERAL police were forced to use teargas to rescue security guards under attack from rioting detainees on Christmas Island early yesterday, after a chaotic weekend of mass escapes from the troubled detention centre and stand-offs between asylum-seekers and authorities' About 300 detainees rioted, smashing gates and fences, after two mass breakouts in which many asylum-seekers walked to the airport demanding freedom.

So when people riot at being locked out of mainland Australia, what signal does this tough Government send?

The Gillard government is determined to expedite the shift of detainees to mainland centres after using up much goodwill in the island community.

So far this Government's more "compassionate" policies have resulted in more boat people coming than ever before, more people being detained than ever before, up to 200 people dying at sea and now riots and teargas. Only a fool who judges policies by their intentions rather than their consequences could admire this disaster.
