I've just finished watching the animated video presentation 'how to get into the brain' by Ryan Watts and Mark Dennis of Genentech. Watts and Dennis describe their journey getting antibodies into the brain by piggybacking on receptors.

The key development was the engineering of a bispecific antibody ie an antibody with two arms; one arm of the antibody 'loosely' binding to the receptor with a second therapeutic arm.

"If we get this technology to work, you could take this approach and apply it to a lot of different medicines," said Dennis.

Our 1st and 2nd generation BBBPs may have an important role to play in this research. It would appear that the technology employed by Genentech is still in its formative stages.

    Tony,
Woolf noted that "[Phylogica is] talking to Genentech about a deal in a different area as well". Oncology is the major focus area for Genentech. There is a high probability that the other deal may revolve around cancer. Following a brief perusal of their site, including an in-house search of Sonic Hedgehog pathway I have no doubt about a compelling number of synergies between the two companies.

    Regards,

    Wayne.
