Dewatering the mine not so difficult. Last time they just pumped it out slowly and through a setteling dam all the solids drop out. When I worked there we had to maintain the electric down hole pumps. One at the bottom of the shaft at 23 level pumping to a damed up drive (tunnel for those who haven't worked underground) on 19 level from there it was pumped to a dam on 14 level, this was repeated until the water was pumped out the adit at what was called horse level. The water was good enough for us to drink. So long as the water was first settled then aerated I don't think it would cause any problems for the environment.
