We all agree that the state of the world economy and bad management have confluenced to bring a company with an otherwise very bright future to its knees. We are all familar with the value of Prominent Hill and Century mines. They are not only company assets but also national ones. Given their value and the fact that they will be lost because of short term economic problems why shouldn't the government move in? They have billions of dollars in the future fund. Let them use it in the national interest. For those who are against government involvement you can placate your feelings by recognising that the action is a sensible one and need only involve temporary involvement - ie until the world economy picks up.
We all know how the national interest was ripped off when Xstrata got ownership of MIM for a song. In the absence of action we will be rueing our loss when cash flow is pouring from Prominent Hill and Century
