    Kimberley Broadband
Although NewSat Limited is headquartered in Melbourne, the company owns and operates two of Australia’s largest satellite teleports at Bayswater, Perth and Mawson Lakes, Adelaide. Through its Bayswater facility, NewSat offers satellite broadband services to businesses and government landed directly into Perth.

In October 2007, following a competitive tender, the Western Australian and Australian governments awarded NewSat the contract to provide broadband services into remote areas of the remote Kimberley Region of Western Australia, the Kimberley Broadband Services Project (KBSP).

This wide ranging contract initially involves a challenging assignment to roll out satellite broadband to 16 of the most remote towns in Australia, some of which are not even accessible by road. As part of the funding arrangement, NewSat has installed a new network hub in the Bayswater teleport.

The new infrastructure enables NewSat to offer:

    Broadband services
Internet Access, including “hot-spot” services at each site
    Voice over IP services
    Video conferencing

Plus a range of corporate and consumer applications throughout the Kimberley region and the whole of Western Australia.
This initiative is strongly supported by the Australian Government and the Government of Western Australia.

On Wednesday April 16, Francis Logan the Minister for Energy; Resources; Industry and Enterprise released a statement to the media entitled "The Kimberley gets connected!." Mr. Logan announced that the $6million Kimberley Broadband Solutions Project was on target to be completed by the middle of this year and went on to "congratulate NewSat Ltd for their work on the project and I am excited to see the project near completion and the advantages it will have for the communities.”

NewSat growth compares strongly amongst Aussie telcos
    29 - 2 - 2008

The SmartCompany Dun & Bradstreet Industry Growth List published nationally this week shows NewSat Limited (ASX:NWT) coming in at mid-table on Australia’s Fastest Growing Telcos with a growth rate of 30% according to the analysts.

Ranked 22nd on the list, NewSat was the only pure satellite services provider amongst a wide range of telco service companies including Singtel Optus (growth rate 4%), Austar United Communications (10%) and Vodaphone (16%).

NewSat placed 32 on the list of 45 in terms of revenue figures and was in a band of sales performances which included Engin, Global Connect, Clever Communications and Tele-IP with similar turnovers.

“The company’s growth rate was a strong performance compared to many other telcos in Australia and especially in the satellite sector,” said CEO Adrian Ballintine.

“NewSat looks forward to driving revenues forward, despite the current hiatus in our consumer products division with the ABG status at the moment.

“However, we expect the positive, long-term effects of the Kimberley project on revenues will start to flow through to the company later in the year as the engineering of the service comes on line,” he said.
