    Yes I think that anyone holding shares thinking they are insulated from any turmoil will be sadly mistaken. Companies like BHP, Telstra and Transurban, will all suffer to some extent. I think that companies involved in delivering broadband will be the last to suffer, as families especially ones with teenage children, will get rid of the TV and walk to work, rather than turn of the internet. As for the Banks, you would certainly need to have your money spread between the 4 pillars, but the NAB would be safest, as it has recently had a massive purge, and have strict lending guidelines. Australian banks are not guaranteed by the Reserve Bank, so you are right buying up Govt Backed Bonds.
    Surely there must be something that appreciates in value during hard economic times?
