    The market is volatile.
    Professionals work a share price up and down to capture all people like you that think they are protecting profits.
    Essentially a stop loss means you did not understand why you bought the stock in the first place.
    You should be buying a stock because you believe there is underlying value that is not recognised yet.[ eg minerals resource ]
    Few people survive in the market with short term time horizons. Once the shareprice has improved you can set stop loss orders if you must by adjusting to long term average cost. You must be circumspect here.
    Some people I know sell out on a 10 % decline if the stock is ASX top 50, then 20 % decline for ASX top 100, then 25 % decline for ASX top 200 etc.
    Personally I never use them -- I would have been stopped out many times on the way to a 10 bagger.

    HC gives the bst short term sell signals; when there are 25 posts a day -- just SELL
