I see a lot of people here have been purely holding the stock on a long side with no way to manage risk or hedge.

I am not providing financial advice, simply an option on protecting your capital if Appen does indeed fall lower closer to $1 AUD. You can even pair this with ASX data https://www.asx.com.au/data/shortsell.txt, which is provided daily and notice that there is increasing or decreasing short open interest.
Ultimately, this company looks like it is going to the ground, but even that is an opportunity. Good luck.
