When interest rates fall, NIMs are reduced, but it also widens and deepens the pool of potential borrowers. There are many moving parts when this happens, but the real question is whether the reduced NIMs are more than offset by the increase in value of the bank's loan book and interest repayments. I wouldn't pay too much attention to WAM's commentary. They are experts in stating the bleedin' obvious and eroding shareholder value with their LICs.
