Except that after the Coal mine has been exhausted - the mining company has to restore it back to as natural as possible (it is part of their cost). Before mining starts Botanists have to take plant and seed samples of every species and map their location and density. The top soil has to be replaced and then the plants that are grown are to be replanted.

My Botany lecturer was one of the scientists in the NT mining, made us aware of jobs opportunities in mining we have as scientists.

Solar panels and wind farms don't ever do this.
