Something that might be of interest to you and other chartists Chuk. During this period gold was strictly controlled by western governments including Australia, who had draconian penalties for possession of gold unless it was jewellry or coins. I have converted as close as possible to dollars & cents from pounds shillings & pence.

- $8.50 1930 - $8.94 1931 - $11.75
- $14.55 1933 - $15.34 1934 - $17.08
- $17.58 1936 - $17.53 1937 - $17.48
- $17.76 1939 - $19.52 1940 - $21.31
- $21.38 1942 - $20.90 1943 - $20.90
- $21.02 1945 - $21.40 1946 - $21.53
- $21.53 1948 - $21.53 1949 - $24.57
- $30.91.
Price then increased to $31.25 from 1st of may 1954 until deregulation of the worlds gold markets in 1970.During the above period pressure had to be applied on various governments to steadily increase the gold price or all of gold production in OZ would have dissapeared into history. Gold price in 1966 was $36.00 per ounce. How times have changed.
