Roamin did a quick estimate of total winnings on your 5 numbers 24 times stat on a system 15 - would come to roughly $1 million, averaged out using standard winnings from draws in the last few years. Cost of tickets would have been roughly $2.8 million using todays ticket prices.

So not break even but not as far off as one might expect.

If you buy a system 13 for Saturday lotto, you have a 1 in 4700 chance of winning the Jackpot. Cost of ticket approx $1450.

If you buy 13 system 13's, your odds of winning the Jackpot are one in 360. Cost of tickets approx $18900.

It's not worth spending $19k for a one in 360 chance of winning $4 million (minimum Saturday lotto jackpot) but it actually becomes a decent bet if the Jackpot is say $7 million or more.

The only risks to your odds are if the same set of numbers get repeated, quite likely with that many system 13's, and if you need to share your winnings with several others.

So mathematically you'd be better off playing say a system 18 ensuring no duplicate number sets) at a cost of $15800, giving you a 1 in 440 chance of winning the Jackpot.

    440 times $15800 = about 7 million.
