Yes it's possible but such a return requirement by its very nature would require taking exposure to very high risk so it would be just as likely that you could turn that $5k into $50 in a year.
Also its not going to be easy and will require alot of hard work, skill and luck as if it were this easy we'd all be multi millionaires
You've taken the right step by trying to learn, my advice would be to do lots of research and hotcopper is a good place to start
