Sorry to hear that mate - it definitely ain't easy out there.
You could still keep it in your daughter's name but it could be limiting when it comes time to sell, you wouldn't really want to sell at a big gain until she reaches 18. Otherwise what you've said is pretty much the only two other options, either your own name or your wife's and just keeping record of how many units owned.
