In this article Claude Walker argues that energy demand is highly elastic. Maybe he's using some different definition for elasticity of demand than the one taught in introductory economics.
Price elasticity of demand is about the causality between a change in price and a change in quantity demanded. The fact that the whole demand curve is changing over time is a given - and the determinants are known. That does not make it elastic or inelastic.
Then he mixes instantaneous (intra-day) and long term (insulation, rooftop solar) variation in demand, plus the relative responsiveness of supply and some completely misguided, emotional, environmental guilt-tripping in a big magic cauldron and hopes for the best.
This is pure uneducated, anti-nuclear hogwash and it annoys me that there are so many idiots who claim the environmental high ground on such tripe.
