Well, Merrill's analysts should tell their trading division to stop shorting the thing, then!
Looking at their latest substantial shareholder notice up to the end of March 08, they've been borrowing a bucketload of stock. Presumably, they've been using it to short sell. We don't know what they did in April 08 yet, but I can guess.
Towards the end of March, they were borrowing upwards of 5m shares per day. Selling those into the market creates a lot of downward pressure.
