Great post TGC and Dr. I do not know if I can call SOA a bust or the area is bad. Down here in southern Louisiana there is alot of drilling with gas and oil production.
All salt formations are different and this is something 3D can't resolve. The only was to know the viability and productivity is to punch a hole to find out what the salt area will give you and what problems will occur.
In the case of SOA, good exploration along with 3D occurred and now we know what the problems that may occur and what the eng'rs have to resolve before the next drill.
The same problems could occur with a bigger well. It was wise to find out with miminal cost so the next drill will be better.
