@GCar & @zebster
My understanding of the JobKeeker subsidy is this:
- FLT can stand down employees immediately whilst keeping them on the payroll (and so re-engage them when travel picks up again). The immediate financial benefit to FLT is that, for these employees, the wage bill reduces to ZERO (huge benefit).
- For all staff that FLT chooses to keep employed (ie, not stood down), FLT will have each of their wages subsidised by $1500 per fortnight for 6 months (a saving of $19.5m per 1000 employees FLT chooses to keep employed). An enormous benefit in the context of an average annual employee bill (in normal times), across global operations, that runs at about $3000 per fortnight, per employee.
The key points are that good employees with nothing to do (stood down), will be retained by FLT (hopefully), at zero cost., whilst good employees with things to do, can be kept employed at half the cost.
Maybe I'm slow, but how do your numbers gel with this?
