Under the current circumstances the government's hands are tied to do anything to increase taxes even if that is removing subsidies like NG. Any significant increases in taxes impacting certain demographics could in itself trigger a recession even if they are valid. The government is being led by the economy not shaping it, which will only lead to greater pain down the line.
