The Australian Constitution gives the Federal Government very little to do. We have an independent Reserve Bank, our currency is dependent on resources prices, and we have no borders with other countries. That leaves the Fed Gov to create things for them to do; neglect has been a good creator of situations. Letting illegals arrive in the country until its a big problem, getting involved in overseas wars by any excuse, picking fights with our near neighbours, etc. This has left the Federal Government with little experience to solve real problems. State governments deal with real people and situations every day. If Fed politicians want more decisions and responsibility, become a state politician if they can.
