George is a journo through and through. He might have Labor leanings but he's not a Labor hack. He criticises where he thinks criticism is needed. Very sharp mind, very circumspect and, IMHO, very fair.
As a bit of trivia, his surname is often confused in translation. Some people think it means, Longbeard but the -genes suffix means lineage, as in human genetic line. It is the same suffix for the greek word for "family." The "long" part tells that he is a thoroughbred, "blue bloods." Long heritage, and all that. It may also be translated as "Great Family," ie one of the more important families in the town, village, city, etc.
