Unfortunately passing the buck to the public servants will wash - it has every other time so why would it not now?
This current federal government, which has some achievements to its credit, operates in the grey semantic spaces between words. The space where you can't quite pin the tail on the donkey. So despite numerous scandalous circumstances no-one has ever really paid the price.
There is little honour in politics these days and frankly I don't believe the public cares about it any more - the rules of the game are so plain that we all know what's going on and can't be bothered with it.
