Too much regulation to start with, one would think reform should deregulate don't you think? Just changed the balance to favour business. There has been no economic benefit at all.
But most importantly
It was dirty politics. The people did not want it and regulated IR laws are hard to undo. Australians were not treated well by the government that went against them for what? It is supposed to be some sort of democracy but it has felt like a dictarship. Some law changes really do need a mandate.
