If the public support our leaders decisions then it is a feel good rush, being popular has led to more wrong decisions than being unpopular in politics. Hawke was a classic case. Started to believe in his own popularity.
When things turn against them they dig the heels in and dont necessarily open their eyes to alternative views not wishing to lose face.
With far less at stake we all do it here, consciously or not. Revelling in the supportive posts and venomously defending against counter arguements.
Howard didn't make his decisions originally because it was the will of the people so he cannot change now simply because the polls say so. He must see this out to the end or lose face. That is my fear now...he may be doing what is required but is it being done with the right reasons?
I still hold hope Saddam will back down because we cant.
I also believe that the UN will sanction an attack if required but I also dont believe this will make any difference.
Not long to wait I feel.
