It doesn’t matter whose shares they are using to short the company, everyone who owns shares in that company will be affected by the share price drop, if they don’t borrow your shares (and pay you the fee) they will just borrow someone else’s. We all still get hit! What should be prevented is the ability to lower the price of a stock with that short sale, it should just go in at market price or a pip above, then we see what happens. If the company is crap and it’s value goes down the shorters win, if not then it’s a losing trade for them.
